My dad took a couple of film classes in college. A few years ago he gave me a list with 86 movies that I should watch.

I’ve watched 47 of them. I’ve liked 47 of them. ‘The List’, as we call it, hasn’t failed me yet.

Here are the ones I haven’t seen:

  • Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)
  • On Golden Pond (1981)
  • Doctor Zhivago (1965)
  • Driving Miss Daisy (1989)
  • Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
  • Lion in Winter, The (1968)
  • Midnight Cowboy (1969)
  • Bonnie and Clyde (1967)
  • Inherit the Wind (1960)
  • Miracle Worker, The (1962)
  • Producers, The (1968)
  • Annie Hall (1977)
  • All the President’s Men (1976)
  • Being There (1979)
  • French Connection, The (1971)
  • Nashville (1975)
  • Little Big Man (1970)
  • Raging Bull (1980)
  • Elephant Man, The (1980)
  • Right Stuff, The (1983)
  • Gandhi (1982)
  • Bridge on the River Kwai, The (1957)
  • High Noon (1952)
  • African Queen, The (1951)
  • From Here to Eternity (1953)
  • Caine Mutiny, The (1954)
  • Grapes of Wrath, The (1940)
  • City Lights (1931)
  • Duck Soup (1933)
  • All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)
  • Night at the Opera, A (1935)
  • Mutiny on the Bounty (1935)
  • Horse Feathers (1932)
  • Flight of the Phoenix, The (1965)
  • Cabaret (1972)
  • Little Big Man (1970)
  • Capricorn One (1978)
  • Sand Pebbles, The (1966)
  • It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963)
  • Catch-22 (1970)

It’s really too bad none of the video stores around here have a lot of these… I think I’m going to have to end up getting a NetFlix account.

I have personally seen these five, and I agree with your dad’s choices. These won’t fail you either.

Have you checked to see if some of the older ones are available from either the public library, or on the internet (public domain)? I know that I just got night of the living dead from http://emol.org/movies/horror/index.html

anyway, hope you find all of them.
