Firefox 3 Constantly Crashes — advice?

June 25, 2008 by bofe

Does anyone else have constant Firefox Crashes? This makes me want to revert back to 2.0… or worse.

Here’s my error report (hopefully none of this is too revealing):

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

Update: A commenter mentioned it could be RescueTime. No crashes since disabling RescueTime. Yay!

Update #2: – This appears to be FIXED in Firefox 3.0.1! Yay! Running RT once again.

I’ve personally had no such issues with 3.0, it’s been super so far.

Also, I don’t have too many add-ons installed – could that be a reason.

One thing I’ve noticed is that 3.0 is not as effective on a slower internet connection.

I discovered your blog while Googling for “rescuetime firefox 3″. The reason I was doing that was that I was seeing FF3 crash randomly all the time and I discovered that it wasn’t because of anything in FF3, but due to an external program — RescueTime. So, if you have RescueTime running in the background, you know the culprit ;-)

I haven’t had a crash problem, but when I installed FF3, it lost some of my book marks and some of my add on’s no longer work.
I have not been impressed with FF3 !!

Bofe, I’ve reported this issue here:
    http://getsatisfaction.com/rescuetime/topics/rescuetime_crashes_firefox_3

Joe (who works on RescueTime) is working on the fix and says that a RT update should be out in a few days which should hopefully fix it.

Firefox 3 is crashing consistently for me, and I am not running rescue time.

I don’t know what is rescue time, but ffox3 crashes ALL THE TIME for me!!
could it be another app doing something similar??

what does rescue time do? that makes it crash firefox?

Here’s another cause (kaspersky) – It affected mine too… A fix is on the way apparently.

Firefox 3.0.1 crashes on me about 5 to 10 times per day. Using Vista Home Premium. I’m a web developer doing lots of ajax, flash and shockwave. Never had any crashes EVER with FF2 but FF3 is so buggy it kills me. Hmm what browser to try next?

This is rediculous, i have reinstalled 3 times. Firefox 3 will not stop crashing, I can either be using it with a lot of tabs or using it with 2 tabs and it will just die with no warning. It will be acting perfect then i get an error in vista telling me that Firefox must now close. This happens 8 – 10 times a day or less matters how angry I get. Internet explorer does not offer me most of the features i get out of firefox. 3 things i find crashes firefox 95% of the time for me. Digg.com, Adding an image to adblock plus, copy and pasting inside of Gmail, or just using it to do anything at all.
