EasyEclipse
I forgot to mention—my cure for the php/mysql editing blues has descended upon me in the form of EasyEclipse.
Now if I could just find a cure for my new Guitar Hero addiction.
Ugh.
Restless nights on an air matress have officially caught up with me now that I’m waking up at 6am every morning.
All I can do is sleep when I get home.
I must get a bed with next paycheck.
Liftoff in T Minus…
It will be interesting to see how Google behaves with our new project which is set to launch this coming week. I can’t say much about the project until I get the go ahead, but it is wonderfully exciting. It was my first chance to flex The Bag’s muscles.
- Dmac just announced he’s moving to KC. —now if we could just convince Stevo to jump ship…
- Drew Perry switched from OS-X to Ubuntu—freedom is a wonderful thing, isn’t it?
This coming week I’ll be watching O.A.R. in concert. I’ll also finish training at my new job and actually have time to work on our massive backlog of work during normal hours instead of before/after time.
As we get ready to launch the first project, another one is going to be in its infancy. We’ve learned lots from this project and we’re ready for another new challenge.
Let’s rock.
ATI Linux Configuration – nVidia’s Switch Campaign (sponsored by ATI)
Open call to anyone who can read, I cannot for the life of my set up my ATI video card in Ubuntu.
My hardware:
- ASUS A8V DELUXE Socket 939 VIA K8T800 Pro ATX AMD Motherboard
- ATI 100-435105 Radeon 9800PRO 256MB DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card
My current configuration:
andy@frostbite:~$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.4.1)
I’ve tried every guide I can find. I’ve downloaded the binaries from ATI. I’m absolutely lost. Any takers? I’ll um… I don’t know. Be very very nice to you and probably refer to you as “The Wolf” forevermore.
Never again will I buy an ATI card.
Minor Victories
We’ve all got to celebrate some things. Here’s my minor victories list:
- KCScout.com – a good idea to check before rush hour so I don’t have another marathon commute
- MSUR – Auto Enthusiasts help from the crew at MSUR with my car stereo. I changed the busted fuse. First time for everything…
- Installation:_Installing_PHPEclipse”>PHPEclipse FAQ a minor victory on the Eclipse platform, which had been a mystery for a while, however…
- EasyEclipse was discovered the next morning
- A twenty minute commute, versus Monday’s one hundred additional minutes, which leads me to today’s final minor victory…
- Sleep

WGA – Linux’s Switch Campaign (sponsored by Microsoft)
My primary desktop operating system is now Ubuntu. This month, it’s cool to use Ubuntu because big shots like Mark Pilgrim and Cory Doctorow (former Apple preachers) have switched.
Ubuntu pronunciation:
Ubuntu, an African word from Zulu and Xhosa, is pronounced “oo-BOON-too”. See the other FAQ on its meaning, it’s a worthwhile read, and no, you’re not the first person to wonder.

The primary motivation for my switch to Ubuntu was Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA). WGA is a ploy by Microsoft to get users to actually pay for their software or switch to Linux. It’s much more effective than Apple’s “Switch” campaign.
Here’s the process I used to go through:
- Obtain Stolen Windows XP Key
- Install Windows XP (and SP 2)
- Crack WGA
- Get ‘critical’ Windows patches
- Wait for WGA cracks to be worked around by Microsoft
- Be denied Windows patches from MS
- Repeat steps 3-6 ad nauseum
Yeah, I could just pay for Windows. I can’t afford to drop $200 on an OS right now. I won’t ever spend that kind of money on an OS now that I’ve used Ubuntu.
Ubuntu meets my computing needs for free. My computing needs:
- Web (Firefox)
- Instant Messaging (gAIM)
- Desktop Weather (gweather)
- Music Jukebox (amarok/xmms, haven’t decided yet)
- Editing PHP/HTML/JavaScript/XML (Eclipse with PHPEclipse, vim, gedit, haven’t decided)
Rush Hours
Today was my first day at the new job. A ‘real’ job.
Now I know why it’s called Rush Hour… it took me TWO HOURS to get to the office. Granted, there was a rather large wreck on Lamar Avenue which backed up I-35 significantly…I was unaware of the wreck. Now I know I need to start listening to the radio instead of Death Metal for my commutes…
Overheard: Swayze Edition
the following is a true story
this actually happened. randomness. but pretty funny:
my roomies and i are at a bar called The Granfalloon in KC. The night had already been a relatively strange night with the Church Group standing outside of Kelley’s and the midget with a midget-walker that begged the question “where do you go to buy a walker if you’re a midget?” … but… we’re in the granfalloon.
there’s probably 400-500 people here, easily. the place is wildly packed. it’s a friday night in a big city. and then it happens: about 10 guys walk in with NASCAR outfits on. they proceeded to get into a huge fight with a group of black guys. one of the bouncers was bleeding a little. it was pretty wild, and as the ringleader for the NASCAR crew was being removed he exclaimed:
i’m fscking patrick swayze’s son motherfscker, i do whatever the hell i want!
i’m laughing so hard.
my conclusions:
- the guy was wasted. (the least fun conclusion)
- the guy really was the son of swayze (2nd most fun conclusion)
- the guy was making a reference to Road House where swayze depicts a bouncer (editor’s choice)
Elevated
I’ve been using a card table as my computer desk. That’s been the case been since I moved out of KY.
This morning I realized why my neck had been bothering me so much… my monitor had been on the same level as my keyboard.
I scrambled our newly cleaned house (Thanks, Andrea) I found four of Clayton’s hard drives that were laying around and a copy of The Abs Diet.
I’m already feeling better.
While you were out
I took an internet break and a blogging break. A lot’s happened since then, so here you go in bullet form…
- Chris Sanders got dugg
- DMac and his wife visited
- I fully converted my desktop machine to Ubuntu Linux Dapper Drake release. Free at last.
- I had a great KY visit. I wish I would have had a car and spread my time out a little more.
- I stopped shaving a week ago. I won’t shave again until Monday morning.
I’m exhausted. Goodnight.
