Sirius Business
I’m feeling a little bit of web mojo again. I think it’s because I’m so close to getting this application launched.
Now I’m just trying to delete some e-mail.
Like a year’s worth of e-mail.
I’m connecting via SSH, but there are apparently too many files in my /Maildir/new to use “rm *” on them. I’ve also tried “rm -rm /Maildir/new/” and “find /Maildir/new/ -name ’*’ -exec rm {} \;” but I’ve had no luck. Does anyone have ANY idea how I can get this shit out?
Whoops. “rm -rm” is invalid… time to try rm -rf. IT WORKED!!!!
Jobs 2.0
Matt at 37svn wrote a good piece on the new way to get hired.
I’m one of those people who will be looking for a job in the very near future. Unfortunately, most of the employers that actually need a professional like me wouldn’t be looking at technorati, icerocket, delicious, memetracker or really ANYWHERE in the blogosphere. I hate that word. Regardless…they’re still purely relying on their own in-house metrics and completely missing out on what the rest of the world is saying.
That made me sound like a disgusting marketer wannabe. O_O
So, the question has been burning for a while. What do you want to do when you get out of college?
I wouldn’t mind doing the following things:
- XHTML/CSS overhauling
- PHP/MySQL Application Development
- ColdFusion Application Development
- Professional Development Training
- Something completely different, but web related
- Data Mining/Corporate Knowledge
I’ll be posting a resume soon. Here’s to making that expensive piece of paper go to work.
Prioritize
It looks like school is going to be priority #1 for the next week. Three tests in the next two days. A pretty sizable quiz in Economics. I’m sure I’ll have some type of paper to write in there, too.
I hate school. So much. Oh well, eighty-two more days.
Pete and Repeat
It’s been a while since I’ve had a post of actual quality. I’ll do one of those ‘this is all the shit I have going on’ posts…
- Work – Next week I begin testing an application I’ve been developing at work since January. This is pretty nerve racking as well as rewarding. My first all out ‘app’ that’s been done exclusively in ColdFusion and MS Access. The biggest headache for this app has been a repeating date feature that was requested. I just don’t think it’s feasible and practical. I’ve convinced my superiors, now it’s time to convince the project’s stakeholders… I’m also working on migrating my buddy Jason’s Plant Database from PHP to CF so it can be moved from my server to the university’s. Oh, I’ve also been doing some training workshops along with the usual helping Totty and Derek with their XHTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL adventures.
- School – I got an 88% on my first Astronomy test. I got a C on my first Strategic Management test that I knew about the day before, and got to study for about 30 minutes. Not terrible, considering the two week long consumption I endured. I’ve got a BPA442 test on Monday and a MGT443 test on Tuesday. My first ECO310 test is on March 2. Surprisingly, the most demanding course of the semester has been ENG101 online. I had entirely too much fun my first semester here, and now I’m paying for it. Sweet attrition.
- Personal – I’ve officially fallen from my little workout throne. The time that’s demanded of me is getting to be too much, and I had to put something aside. I’m still eating decently, but not losing weight at all. I’ve plateaued. I’ll get back in the thick of things soon (this week or next week). Feel free to harass me and motivate me in any way you can. I gave myself the Valentine’s Day present of 13 episodes of LOST from iTunes last night. I’m so excited that I’ll be caught up with the series.
- Organizations – The AITP website committee is meeting every Thursday from now until March. Today our MySQL access was setup. I’m eager to get this project off the ground. Phi Mu Alpha has been exceptionally demanding of my time with a little brother and being on the probationary member committee, as well as helping the pledges with their website. Most of it has been a great time. Unfortunately, we’ve also buried family members of one probationary member and one active member this semester. Singing at these funerals has been a very interesting experience. It’s good to be there for someone when they need you the most.
Whew. I think that’s about it. Yeah, it is.

While I’m Locked Out
Finally! Some time to update… but at what cost?
I’m developing an application in ColdFusion for work. I’m using cfmail to send out an e-mail with information on how to obtain a newly generated password. Unfortunately, our mail server is running extremely slow. So I’m locked out of my app for a little while. I guess this could be considered a good thing…
I’ve been physically ill for about the past week. I think I’m showing signs of improvement, though.
I think I’m becoming addicted to coffee. I only have one cup in the morning, with a little cream and a packet of Sweet & Low. This is probably how an addiction will start.
Haven’t felt good enough to work out, but my weight is still pretty steady. That makes me happy.
The Sweetest Thing
Hi folks,
I have been under the weather all night last night. I am canceling today’s (Feb. 7th) class a result. Sorry about that.
You’ve officially made my day. Now to go home and relax. The whole ‘time to myself’ bit is something I’ve been missing lately.
