With a Little Help
So the sickness is quickly being conquered. Today had a lot of ups and downs with headaches, congestion, dizziness, and cold sweats.
It feels like I’m narrating the end of a Scrubs episode, but friends are some of the greatest assets ever. Rarely can friendship be explained. Maybe you’ve treated them poorly in the past and never apologized. Maybe you have never really had an experience that brought you together, but there’s an unspoken bond that you’d help each other out if you could. Maybe the shoe is on the other foot, and they’ve wronged you and you have no idea why you’d still do anything to help them out. Maybe it’s someone you’ve met one or two times, but continues to be a wonderful confidant and friend regardless of distance.
Drat
I’m sick. Going to the doctor in about an hour. I guess it’s better now than at the end of the semester…
The usual Ginger Ale remedy hasn’t been working too well. Let’s hope the doctor hooks me up with something fierce.
Sawdust
Last night I came home covered in sawdust again. I spent around 6.5 hours sanding my paddle. I can’t wait to have that evil evil device finished. I’ll put a picture up, with a little bit of explanation when I am done. (This weekend)
Sawdust was in my hair, all over my clothing… terrible.
Burnout
It hurts to say this, but I think I’ve reached my official burnout point for web development in general.
WebDev just doesn’t interest me anymore. Oh well.
In other ‘news’, things are rather busy. Too busy to post much more.
Hurry up and Fail
I’m pretty tired of the overwhelming New Year’s Resolution crowd that’s been showing up at the Wellness Center. It’s getting to be too crowded there.
Oh well, at least I can still eat nicely and do my own thing.
Classes are pretty interesting. Here’s the “first day” review:
- ECO310 – Global Economics: Economics could actually become interesting. This class really just makes me want to travel.
- MGT590 – Strategic Management: I’m a little skeptical about this one. We’ll see…
- MGT443 – Operations Management: A little more numbers based that Strategic Management, which is probably a good thing…
- BPA442 – Business Ethics: This guy reminds me of my high school government teacher. I could see myself being like him in 35 years… It’s enjoyable.
- AST115/116 – Astronomy: This is my regret for putting off a science course until now.
- ENG101 – English, online: This is my regret for doing too many stupid things my first semester here.
The classes are going to be pretty rough. I don’t think the end of the semester will be as terrible as last semester.
113 more days.
Arg
It’s snowing here. Snowing and wet. How I miss thee, San Diego.
Today’s intake: one PBJ sandwich, one special el primo at Los, and probably something else to be announced. No exercise yet for this week besides pushups around the apartment—I’m able to get them in groups of 30 though.
My schedule is pretty much non-stop. I’m got 8:30-6:00 inked in daily for class, work, and exercise. 19 hours of class, 30 hours of work, and 4 hours of exercise. I did realize that somehow I also scheduled an hour every day for lunch—I didn’t notice this until I saw my revised schedule at work. The not so pleasant part of my schedule is I haven’t put in times for extra curricular activities and homework. Gross.
So, the semester’s goals:
- 4.0
- Weighing 180/185 lbs by May. I got down to 205, but I’m at 210 now as a result of an extended vacation O_O
- Graduating
- Making the most of the time I have left in Murray with my friends
- Landing a job before graduation
That’s pretty effin’ ambitious. Oh well. That’s how I roll.
On Your Mark
Tomorrow is my last “First Day of Classes” at Murray State. A lot of mixed emotions, but that’s not important.
Of the utmost importance is my LOST addiction. A friend let me borrow Season 1, and now I can’t function without watching at least one episode a day.
I’ve decided my TV addiction hasn’t really been rekindled with LOST/Arrested Development/Scrubs, but it’s being addicted to TV shows that are available on DVD. The lack of time constraints, commercials, and portability makes TV shows on DVD pretty unbeatable.
Facebook vs. MySpace
Everyone that was my age I met on the west coast talked about MySpace.
All of them. Even the 25 beautiful SDSU cheerleaders that were on my flight to Cincinnati.
I have a healthy hatred of MySpace. It’s slowly starting to wane, though. They whore themselves out and somehow it works…
However, my MySpace loathing is not receding at the same rate that my Facebook love is growing. I’ve never experienced errors with Facebook. Ever. I’ve never had to download a greasemonkey script to NOT blow my brains out while browsing Facebook (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/997)—oh, and let’s not forget the really important aspects of this…
Facebook uses PHP, MySpace uses ColdFusion. Facebook’s markup is pristine, MySpace’s markup is horrid at best.
They both get results—both sites are thriving. The fact is, after graduating college… how many new friends am I going to have on Facebook? Let’s just hope MySpace sees the light sometime soon…
San Diego Report
Whew, what a trip. I just posted the remainder of my photos to the gallery.
A note about the photos, I didn’t take it with me when we went out because I was pretty sure it would get misplaced/stolen …especially in Tijuana.
The trip was awesome. It was exactly what I needed—a real vacation with new people in a new place. I’m so glad to be back though. I missed my friends in Murray.
The big differences: money money money. Yes, the cost of living is higher. Drastically. However, there are tons of public beaches and parks to go to that need staff. There’s also a parking garage cost that I hadn’t anticipated. There wasn’t a terrible difference in gas prices, but there was a lot more driving. Welcome decreases in costs were in food and booze. Since there are so many pubs/restaurants/clubs, they all have to have ridiculous specials. $2 for any well drink. $4 for a pitcher of beer. $1 for a Matt B’s size slice of pizza. How’s that?
Distance was a pretty huge obstacle as well. If you wanted to get out of your ‘area’, everything seemed to be about 10-20 minutes away. There were also tons of pubs/restaurants that were in walking/biking distance. Tiajuana was 20 minutes away, but I don’t think I really want to go back there.
The little differences: food. Fish tacos, Chinese Fusion Restaurants (Kung pow pizza?), and any variety of ethnic food you can imagine. We ate at some awesome restaurants. Oh, and of course the In-n-Out burger. That’s a good burger.
The people were different, too. Some of them were kind of rude, but for the most part everyone was really nice. Maybe I lucked out? However, there were tons of beautiful people. Everyone seemed to be in great shape (or very close to getting there) and extremely savvy about their appearance.
The lingo was different. “Solid” was our “huge”. Huge was a place to go, as in “We’re going huge tonight guys!”—and let’s not forget Tobias’ immortal “douche chill” remark.
The trip was great. The plane trips were awesome. 25 SDSU cheerleaders were on my flight to Cincinnati. Getting to see the bridge Baxter was punted from was sweet. I got reacquainted with TV too. I’m now able to consider myself a pretty serious fan of Arrested Development and Scrub since I watched a full season of each on DVD.
Heading Back
It’s been one hell of a trip.
I’ve got some more photos taken—and yes, they have people and places!
I’ll post them once I get back to Kentucky.
That’s all I’ve got for now.
